About
A Digital Approach for Sustainable Rural Water Systems: Field Study Report from Assam, December 2024 is a comprehensive report developed by the eGov Foundation in collaboration with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) of Assam. The report explores the potential of digitalisation within the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), examining how digital tools can enhance the efficiency, accountability, and sustainability of rural drinking water service delivery. The report draws from an exploratory field study conducted in 17 villages across Assam. Using thematic analysis of interviews with key stakeholders, the report identifies both the opportunities and challenges present in existing water service delivery models. It assesses infrastructure conditions, stakeholder coordination, financial sustainability, user digital readiness, and community engagement — highlighting the critical factors necessary for strengthening and scaling digital water governance in rural contexts.
