Transforming Public Health Campaigns Across Africa: eGov Foundation and Malaria Consortium Partner for Digital Innovation
3 Minutes

Date: 19 November, 2024
Location: London, UK / Bengaluru, India

eGov Foundation and Malaria Consortium have launched a new partnership to enhance health campaign delivery across Africa, beginning with malaria prevention. This collaboration leverages cutting-edge digital tools to address some of the continent’s most pressing public health challenges, with the goal of improving health outcomes and saving lives.

At the heart of this partnership is the deployment of eGov’s Health Campaign Management (HCM) product, powered by the open-source DIGIT platform – certified as a Digital Public Good. The HCM product provides governments and organisations with a scalable, transparent, and inclusive infrastructure for managing health campaigns. These capabilities enable the delivery of critical interventions, such as seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), insecticide-treated net (ITN) distribution, Vitamin A supplementation, and Azithromycin distribution.

Driving Impact in African Communities

The partnership’s early successes include the implementation of HCM in Mozambique earlier this year and ongoing pilot programs in Nigeria, where it is already demonstrating its potential to enhance campaign efficiency, accountability and equity. By adopting this digital platform, health systems are equipped to deliver life-saving interventions more effectively, ensuring no community is left behind.

“By integrating digital public infrastructure with health expertise, we are creating a scalable model for campaign digitalisation that can be tailored to the needs of individual countries and communities. This approach not only supports effective campaign management and strengthens health systems but also contributes directly to global health goals, including reducing preventable disease and mortality.”

— Liberty Bunce, Senior Digital Health Specialist at Malaria Consortium

A Blueprint for Future Public Health Success

This partnership exemplifies how Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) can transform health campaigns and improve health equity. By building capacity, enhancing transparency, and promoting efficiency, the partnership supports efforts to achieve universal health coverage and address persistent health disparities in Africa. By combining Malaria Consortium’s on-the-ground experience with eGov Foundation’s leadership in digital public services, the partnership creates a robust framework for strengthening health systems to better respond to critical challenges, supporting sustainable, locally-driven solutions with the potential to expand into non-tropical diseases and additional health priorities in the future.
