BENGALURU, India and ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – July 10, 2025 – eGov Foundation and Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) today announced a three-year strategic partnership to transform public service delivery across Ethiopia through digital governance solutions. The collaboration will focus on implementing eGov’s DIGIT platform to help Ethiopian government agencies deliver more efficient, transparent, and citizen-centric services.
For millions of Ethiopians, accessing government services often involves lengthy bureaucratic processes, paper-based systems, and limited transparency in service delivery. This partnership will help Ethiopian government bodies transition from traditional service delivery methods to comprehensive digital solutions using eGov’s proven DIGIT platform, which has been recognized as a digital public good by the Digital Public Goods Alliance.
EAII will leverage their mandate in artificial intelligence technology development and implementation to identify government agencies ready to adopt DIGIT solutions, facilitate connections with relevant ministry officials and local government bodies, and contribute strategic insights on AI integration within government workflows. They will also support the establishment of governance frameworks and technical councils to ensure effective program oversight and sustainable implementation across Ethiopian institutions.

eGov will provide comprehensive technical implementation support including platform customization for Ethiopian government workflows, infrastructure setup and maintenance guidance, and extensive capacity building for government staff and IT teams. The organization will also establish local technical support capabilities, provide ongoing advisory services on digital governance best practices, and ensure complete knowledge transfer to enable Ethiopia to independently manage and enhance their digital government systems.
“Digital transformation in government requires partnerships that combine deep technical expertise with local institutional knowledge,” said Viraj Tyagi, CEO of eGovernments Foundation. “This collaboration with EAII represents our commitment to enabling governments in the Global South to harness the power of digital public goods. By working together, we can create scalable solutions that address Ethiopia’s unique governance challenges while contributing to our broader mission of societal transformation across 30 countries by 2030.”
The partnership envisions creating a comprehensive ecosystem for digital governance in Ethiopia, where citizens benefit from streamlined service delivery, reduced processing times, enhanced transparency in government operations, and improved access to essential services across urban and rural communities. The collaboration will initially focus on urban governance, public finance management, and foundational government services, with potential expansion into health and sanitation sectors.
“Ethiopia’s commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence and digital technologies for national development aligns perfectly with this partnership,” said Eng. Worku Gachena (PhD), Director General of Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute. “By combining our understanding of Ethiopia’s institutional landscape with eGov’s proven platform capabilities, we can accelerate the delivery of digital government services that truly serve our citizens. This collaboration positions Ethiopia as a leader in digital government transformation across the African continent.”
The partnership includes robust data sovereignty protections, with all systems hosted within Ethiopian territory and comprehensive privacy safeguards for citizen information. The collaboration also emphasizes sustainability through extensive knowledge transfer, local capacity building, and the establishment of Ethiopian-led governance structures to ensure long-term success.
